November is Pet Cancer Awareness Month

The month of November is recognized as Pet Cancer Awareness Month and Pet Health Market would like to take some time to share a few important facts about the disease with our readers.

The truth is, our beloved dogs and cats contract the disease around the same rate as humans do, and just like humans, pet cancer can occur in any part of the body. The sad fact is that pet cancer awareneness is still quite limited.

• Over half of all dogs over age 10 will get cancer
• 1-in-4 dogs will die of cancer
• Pet cancer is the #1 disease-related killer of dogs and cats
• Malnutrition increases risk of cancer and shortens life span

The good news is there are specific steps you can take to help reduce the chance of your pet developing cancer in their lifetime. You may recognize some of these tips also helping reduce the risk of cancer in humans.

• Feed your pet healthy, fresh & unprocessed food 
• Exercise your pet daily
• Have routine vet visits
• Pay attention to pain
• Reduce exposure to carsinogens (tobacco smoke)
• Increase low vitamin levels with supplements

• Swollen lymph nodes
• Rapid weight loss
